Class Action (band)
Class Action and Phreek were garage house and disco musical projects. The original Phreek comprised Christine Wiltshire, Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams, Stan Lucas and others.[1] Class Action was directed by Larry Levan featuring Christine Wiltshire on vocals. Both groups are best known for their club hit, written by James Calloway and Leroy Burgess, "Weekend". The 1983 version was remixed by Morales and Munzibai and Larry Levan and produced by Bob Blank and Lola Blank.
History
The song "Weekend" was originally recorded on Atlantic Records by Patrick Adams' studio group Phreek which Wilshire was once a member.[2][3] The song was heavily played by Larry Levan yet it was commercially unavailable therefore it did not enter any charts.[4] In the early 1980s, William Socolov, the co-owner of Sleeping Bag Records, invited Levan to make a new version of "Weekend". It became more successful than its original version, peaking at number 54 on the British pop chart.[4][5] It also entered the Billboard Dance chart in February 1983, reaching number 60.[6] Highest position on the same chart was number 9.[7]
